The Family Bookshelf
2020
I painted this mural on the side of my parents' shed while on lockdown for the Covid-19 pandemic. It depicts two of each family member's favorite books, plus Harry Potter.
I mixed all the colors from blue, pink, yellow, black and white.
Right: Process photos

The project began when my brother and I replaced the bottom panels of the shed siding, which were rotten from water damage.

I sanded the shed and painted it white.

I began by roughing out the base layers of color. I later changed my mind about some of these book placements.

I used a ruler, painters tape, and pencil to get even spacing for the letters, which I drew by hand before painting.

Because my shed is much longer than it is tall, I made the books wider than reality so they could be seen from a distance. I adjusted the spacing of the titles accordingly.

Reference images. I took some creative liberties and turned Pride and Predjuice pink, mostly so that I would have more books with distinct colors.
